Web Cams I Have Known & Loved

I run a couple of webcams. One focuses on the Space Needle from my roof. Another is the internet's only live Lava Lite webcam.

The DIY web cam on my roof is my pride and joy. We live in West Seattle (North Admiral to be exact) and have an excellent view of the Space Needle as well as the rest of the Seattle skyline. Over the last couple of years the Space Needle web cam has gone from my balconey to the roof and has become more weatherproofed and modded as time goes on.

Cheapskate that I am it's powered an old Thinkpad in a plastic sweater box. The mast is a large piece of fir dowel with heavy guage wire used as a lightning rod. An old Logitech camera has been outfitted with a cell phone telephoto lens and it's all housed in a plastic tub with an old baseball hat of mine as the visor. It's sits on the guts of a tripod and is attached to the mast with hardware store bits and bobs.

The current incarnation as of 20aug10

Photos and description of the earlier versions, a true work in progress. The history of the web cam as it were.
