meditate every day

When (not "if") you meditate you need to know when to stop. If you're anything like me, your eyes are at least partially closed when you sit. And if you're focused inward, are you watching the clock too? No, and most alarm clocks aren't well suited to double duty as a meditation timer.

So I made a series of simple meditation timers, varying in length from 10 to 30 minutes in 5 minute intervals. Start, sit, and wait for the bell rousing you frm your meditation. Simple? Yes but so is the problem we're tying to solve.

meditation timer bellClick here to listen to what the bell sounds like. This is what you'll be waiting to hear while meditating. Again, it's simple.

I've made two kinds of timers: audio and video. The audio timers are MP3 files, ideal for your iPod, MP3 player, or burning onto a CD. The video timers are a loooong black-to-white dissolve with a bell at the end. They're in MP4 format which will work on your iPod, iPhone, and just about everywhere else.

Right-click to download one or more of the meditation timer MP3 files onto your computer. After you download it, play it from your computer, put it on your MP3 player or iPod, or burn it onto a CD. Share it with your friends and family. Send me suggestions and feedback.

The reason I made the video meditation timers a black-to-white dissolve is you can tell what time it is by the gray level in front of you. The longer you wait to peek, the lighter the gray. Black is start, white is bell. Soft of like the glowing Ambient Orb Device as UI.

free meditation video on YouTubeYouTube imposes a maximum length of videos uploaded. Therefore the 10 Minute Dissolve Meditation Timer is the only one I can host on YouTube. It should work just fine at full screen size too. Or download it from YouTube onto your other dee-vices and gadgets. Try it the videos on your flat screen or TV.

Of course there are other online meditation timers out there including the one above from our pals at Poodwaddle, one from Audio Dharma and this one from the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery. Theirs are all more polished than mine.

Enjoy your meditation. Thanks and good luck to us all on our paths.
