Buddhist Audio Stuff

I can only talk about what I know. I know a little bit about Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrayana. I know even less about other traditions. I'm glad to share what I've learned.

Dharma is often transmitted from mouth to ear, from teacher to student, guru to disciple. The spoken word has been a primary means of teaching. It's no surprise that there's so much available online, CD, and DVD. This is but a small sampling of what's available, a place to get started.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama makes many of his talks and teachings available online. The collection goes back to 2006 and new items are being added all the time. You can either download or stream them. If you can't attend a teaching or lecture in person, these webcasts are truly the next best thing. You can't go wrong.

The Dalai Lama Center in Vancouver BC hosts a large collection of videos, many of the Dalai Lama himself. They have their own YouTube channel too.

Lam Rim, Tibetan Buddhist Internet Radio, is a rich resource with talks by a number of teachers. There's a section for prayers and chants too. Lots of MP3's you can download for free.

The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition has a comprehensive audio section (as one would expect of FPMT). The Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive is the archive of the FPMT. They too have an audio archive.

The Berzin Archives has a well laid out set of audio files. In general the archive is impressive in its scope.

Ven. Thubten Chodron has a large collection teachings available online. The Kurukulla Center for Buddhist Studies has an a set of audio teachings. They even have live broadcasts of scheduled events.

While I said that I was most familiar with Tibetan Buddhism, I respect the Dharma Punx as well. Not my style but big love out to my peeps. As you'd expect there are plenty of Noah Levine MP3's to be had.

LotsawaHouse.org ''Dharma. On the house''I love Gary Dyson's Heart Sutra Dance Mix, a lot. I particularly like mixing His Holiness the Dalai Lama reciting the Heart Sutra with Dyson's Heart Sutra Dance Mix. Works for me. Meanwhile here's a translation of The Heart of Transcendent Wisdom Sutra into English so you can follow along. Or hear/watch The Heart Sutra chanted by a Tibetan monk.

If this represents a sampling of what's available in English re: Tibetan Buddhism, think how much there is out there in other languages about other traditions and lineages. Fill your ears!
