ghettolicious

ghettolicious, adj. a design aesthetic characterized as funky hipster retro recycle DIY homebrew tweak mod personalized gadet toy, as in an elegant hack. It may not be pretty and your mother may not approve but damn, does it get the job done.

“And lookee here at what you made this thing with. Is that a...? Junior, whadda ya call this here contraption? Is this thing safe?”

Altoids tins often figure into ghettolicious projects as do repurposed older laptops and Arduinos. Solar is big. Consumer detritusis is the material of choice. Visual appeal is a given. Bonus points when form meets or exceeds function. And remember kids, geeks and nerds are the only judges voting in this competition.

By ghettolicious I don’t mean steampunk. In fact, I don’t even like steampunk. Not my thing. Now these suitcase boomboxes and this switch made out of 2 CDs? Now that’s ghettolicious!

Want a real example of ghettolicious? Try this DIY homebrew supercomputer (sic). Works for me.
