You don't always want your phone glued to your ear. Sometimes you want it to stand up, or lean as it were.

Of course there are plenty of folks eager to sell you stuff. That's not what we're talking about here. No, I mean a classic DIY homemade solution.

Let's start off with the easiest, cheapest, and in some ways the most elegant solution to the problem. This DV tape stand qualifies as 100% ghettolicious. Reuse'n'recylce.

For a minimalist approach try this quick and cheap paperclip phone stand, [YouTube video]. Again, a ghettolicious design but this one has measurements, in metric no less.

Only slightly more complicated is this cell phone stand made of pencils. Looks like something you could build once and use pretty much forever. Definitely a sign an office worker (a.k.a. cubicle slave) has too much time on her/his hands.

Here's a DIY cardboard phone stand complete with a PDF template. Definitely beautiful (assuming it works). This plastic phone stand fits in your wallet [YouTube video]. Makes me wonder how it'll hold up over time.

Plastic in your wallet and a pair of scissors and next thing you know you've got a credit card phone stand [Flickr gallery]. This business card phone stand looks like a step backwards compared to some of the other designs.

Of course someone had to do a Lego cell phone stand. Eventually all good things come back to Legos.

Big surprise; DIY phone stands and docks just made Lifehacker.
