ICE, In Case of Emergency

ICE, In Case of Emergency, phone numbers are stored in your cell phone so emergency workers can locate your next of kin if you are unresponsive. Ambulance workers, fire fighters, police, and hospital employees will search for a contact stored in your phone named "ICE" or "In Case of Emergency".

The alternative is trying to redial the last few people who called you and hope that they know you personally. The worst case scenario is that you've been on the phone to tech support all day talking to customer service reps in India or you've been chasing down job leads or answering craigslist ads. None of those people know (nor care) who you are.

Create a new contact in your mobile phone named "ICE". Enter the contact information (phone, email, etc.) for the person(s) you want notified if something happens to you. Some create multiple entries for each person named ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc.

If you're a Google Voice user there's a slicker more elegant way to setup ICE using Google Voice.

In addition to ICE entries in your phone, you can make your own ICE wallet cards or you can download ICE wallet cards too.

If you have an involved medical history or conditions you absolutely want EMT's and hospital staff to have access to carry a document on a USB flash drive with you. Create a simple text file, PDF, or Word doc and name the file "ICE".
