Code 39 is a variable length alphanumeric symbol. The Code 39 character set includes: the letters A-Z (uppercase), the digits 0-9, and several math punctuation marks.

Full ASCII Code 39 barcodes use pairs of characters to represent the characters not found in the standard 44 character version of Code 39. With Full ASCII Code 39 symbols you can create both uppercase and lowercase text.

One big advantage to using Code 39, sometimes called Code 3 of 9, is that all it needs is a start bar before and a stop bar after your data. The Code 39 start & stop bars are represented by the asterisk (*). To encode JetCityOrange you'd format this string in the C39Tools fonts: *JETCITYORANGE*>

Code 39 doesn't require a mandatory check digit. The use of a check digit with Code 39 is very rare. When necessary, a mod 43 check digit is used.
