Noise comes in all shapes and sizes. Perhaps you're familiar with white noise, pink noise, or brown noise. Now you can download free MP3 noise files. Each is 1 minute long and mono.
Click on a file to hear it. Right click on it and select Save File As to save it to your hard disk. Load it onto your MP3 player, listen to it right off of your computer, or burn a CD. Or use it as the starting point for your own sound hack.
white noise
White noise has a spectral frequency of 1. Equal proportions of all frequencies are present. Because our ears are sensitive to high frequencies, white noise sounds very "hissy".
pink noise
Pink noise has a spectral frequency of 1/f and is the most natural sounding of the noises. It has a fractal-like nature.
brown noise
Brown noise has a spectral frequency of 1/f^2. There are many more low-frequency components resulting in thunder- and waterfall-like sounds.
Mix 'em, mash 'em, scratch 'em. If you do something cool with these noise files, please let me know. I'd love to hear about it.
